Assignment Description:

We were to gain some experience in basic modeling concepts with the Maya animation/modeling system. We basically had to make a number of different shapes, with various textures, lighting, deformations, and other bells and whistles.

Defending My Code:

Basically, I chose to make a snowman using default shapes (spheres, cylinders, etc. - from the GUI menus), since I really did not have the motivation to do much more. I fulfilled the requirements by using the sculpt tool to dent his head. I made a direct CV modification to the nose, such that it looked as if I had scaled it mathematically in the z-direction. The majority of the scene is made up of NURB objects, where as a few items (the nose, the tree) are polygonal objects. As you'll see below, I have taken step-by-step pictures of the creation process. All of the objects have textures, and the hands have multiple element textures, as I added a glow feature to an already textured set of hands. I also used the loft tool to turn my pencil curves into a rainbow (a choice made by a fried set of brain cells). Using cones and a cylinder, I even made a pretty christmas tree to add to the scene (I got rid of the technicolor box).

Rendered Scene Thumbnails:

Rather than waste hours on a webpage write up, I have a log file linked here that has descriptions for all of the thumbnails.
